Still Life -- Fairmount Park, Philadelphia
Early morning in the park's
azalea garden shifts
of light dapple blooms
and a pair of inside-out underwear
placed on a bench's back.
White cotton print.
A bench to sit on and size small or a girl's.
The park is calm, empty.
Fuschia the azaleas: the blooms
and the buds like small fists.
Beautiful and still.
That a place could have
all this and betray
no other sign, the gaudy
sky and flowers suddenly
perfect, a sealed frame, other
than the little cotton crept in.
