Three Poems

The Hole

i

apparently the hole
in the paper
is a hole
a thing
that is
not a thing

something
if it is
not something
to think through

ii

nothing’s likenesses
attract

iii

as the brain approaches
infinity

wind
in the wind

iv

if one word
surpassing
its meaning

what will
two words

v

to state
“being among”
& being
a state

vi

what light
& the lightness
almost
of breath

means
what will follow
will

vii

pressing
the eye
that is

lightly
letting
go

Nostalgia

i

souls discover
a magnitude
that is not theirs

ii

souls discover
a magnitude
that is not there

iii
perhaps Tarkovsky died
when he realized
the riddle
of the drops of water, oil,
etc.

iv

perhaps there is
no such word as poetry

v

perhaps is no such word
in poetry

vi

when one plus one
was found, written
on his wall, it equaled
one, but larger

vii

if we’re not so much
water than what we think
then we will become water

Near Myths

a word or
a house like a word
is shed
when we believe it
is a house
or a word
the last vestige of forest
it stretched from here
to the house
that sounds like it

-

the door
of a modest house

invites modesty

but an open door
is not

like an open window

-

what flew
thought

what thought
knew

sounds
like it knows

whose thought
of who

-

by right
by rote
he writes

-

his near death

what he owes

is earned

his ear owns

what his arms

have left

his own death

nearer

-

a final sentence

a line drawn

his house

through which all

intersects
