When You Are Lucky Enough to Get the Red One

Trembles, glows
finally just tastes good
and does not catch fire
or point the way to loss

getting by after the carpenter's
accident, numbing chairs
in the hospital corridor
knew the news might
be good, the nurse
rubs his back

a sticking moment
can't shake out
like salt and sugar
at the beach house in damp
weather, like that red
candy stuck in its wrapper.
